Hi, I’m Lauren.
I’m a qualified and practicing secondary science teacher and the tutor behind Rooted Science Tuition.
My approach to teaching has been shaped not only by my experience as a teacher, but by my own experience as a student.
At school, I wasn’t always the student who understood something the first time it was explained. There were times when not understanding left me feeling as though I simply wasn’t good at a subject, rather than that I might just need it explained in a different way.
That experience has stayed with me and has shaped the teacher I am today.
I strongly believe that not understanding something should never leave a student feeling embarrassed or incapable. Sometimes we need to slow down, go back to the foundations or simply find another way of looking at it.
That is the idea behind Rooted Science Tuition.
I wanted to create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying “I don’t understand” — knowing that we'll simply find another way to approach it.
As a qualified and practising secondary science teacher, I teach science every day and have experience supporting students across KS3 and GCSE. I work with young people every day and understand the demands of the current science curriculum, as well as the pressures students can feel around assessments and exams.
Tuition is tailored to the individual student. We can revisit foundations, tackle particular areas of difficulty, strengthen exam skills or build confidence across the course more generally.
My aim isn't simply to help students memorise enough science to answer an exam question. I want them to understand what they're learning, because confidence and progress are much easier to build when those foundations are secure.
Understanding first. Confidence second. Grades follow.
